Since the 2010 launch of its Blue Campaign to raise awareness about human trafficking, the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has made a wide range of resources available to help increase awareness and educate the general public on the indicators of human trafficking. Take a few minutes out of your day to complete the training.

First Responders

The Office of Health Affairs and The Federal Emergency Management Agency's United States Fire Administration collaborated on a public awareness video to help first responders identify possible victims of human trafficking.

Law Enforcement

DHS provides a web-based training course to law enforcement officials to train officers on recognizing human trafficking and responding appropriately. This interactive, 30-40 minute course is based on four videos depicting human trafficking scenarios law enforcement officers may encounter during routine duties.

Federal Employees

The Combating Human Trafficking Training for Acquisitions Personnel is specifically tailored for the U.S. Government acquisition workforce on combating human trafficking using the pertinent provisions of the federal acquisition regulations (FAR). The FAR provides remedies for the acquisition workforce to use against contractors who engage in human trafficking, including debarment.

Educators

DHS collaborated with the Department of Education to create an informational pamphlet tailored to school administrators and staff. The double-sided leaflet includes general information on human trafficking, as well as a list of indicators to help education professionals identify and respond to a potential human trafficking situation when encountered.

Blue Campaign

In 2010, DHS launched the Blue Campaign, unifying the DHS components to more effectively combat human trafficking through enhanced public awareness, training, victim assistance, and law enforcement investigations. By expanding our collaboration within the department, as well as among domestic and international governments, law enforcement, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector, DHS is helping to protect victims from being trafficked both within the United States and around the world.

HOST AN EVENT ON HUMAN TRAFFICKING

Helping victims of human trafficking is as simple as talking to a friend. Host an event and invite the community to discuss the exploitation of human beings. At this campaign, we are eager to spread the word and we would like to talk at any community event about human trafficking and victim identification.

Get involved! Participate in an anti-trafficking movement in your area and get involved in its activities and campaigns (e.g., hold events, distribute posters, leaflets etc.) in your neighborhood and in schools.

Encourage businesses! Be a responsible consumer! Inform yourself on the labor policies of companies to ensure their products are free from slave labor and other forms of exploitation. If possible, buy fair trade products.

Seek support! If you suspect that someone has been trafficked report it to the institutions or assistance facilities dealing with human trafficking in your area.
